CERPEN KU.....

Malaikat pelindung

Sambung Debi”.
“Lo tuh seharusnya nyadar
sendiri kenapa gue begini sama elo, Lo tuh nggak nyadar apa sama apa yang elo lakuin ke gue?? Kayak gitu gue masih harus sabar ngadepin lo?? Nggak bisa Deb, kalo elo manusia nggak mungkin elo kayak gitu” bentak Riski. Baru kali ini Riski mau ngomong panjang dengan nada tinggi, Debi yang tadinya pura-pura memelas jadi sedikit heran melihat wajah menyeramkan Riski.
“Lo lagi dapet?? Hahahaha !!” Goda Debi..
“Terserah !!”
“Teng !! teng !!” bel masuk mulai berbunyi.

==*==
“Nilai ulangan kamu turun Ris, bukan cuma turun tapi berubah.
“Belum puas…” jawab Debi ragu tapi dia masih berusaha tenang.

==*==

==*==

“Sekarang lo mau apa ??” jawab Riski tanpa basa-basi
“Gue cuma mau kasih ini” sambil memberikan bungkusan berwarna putih besar yang sedari tadi dia pegang.

“Apa ??”
“Nggak mau” jawab Riski singkat.
“Kali ini gue minta tolong sama lo, tolong lo terima”
“Oke, gue terima.

==*==

“Tas baru ris ??”
“Kok tumben kamu nggak minta uang mama ??”
“Riski di kasih temennya Riski ma”
“Kenapa dia mau ngasih kamu ??”
“Nggak tau ma, yaudah Riski berangkat dulu ya ma. Assalammualaikum” pamit Riski sambil mencium tangan mamanya
“Waalaikum salam. Hati-hati ya”
“Iya”
“Pagi” singkat, tapi udah nggak pakai galak lagi
Tanya Riski jutek lagi.
“Biarin, gue pengen duduk sebelah elo aja. Kenapa ?? nggak suka ??” jawab Debi tanpa rasa nggak enak sedikit pun, padahal secara nggak langsung Riski sedang berusaha mengusirnya.
“Terserah, gue nggak perduli asal lo jangan ganggu gue aja” jawab Riski.
“Siap deh !!”.
“Lo tu kenapa sih seneng banget deket-deket gue ??”.
“Gue suka liat mata elo”.
“Mata ?? emang mata gue kanapa ??”
“Terserah sih mau percaya ato nggak, tapi emang gitu kok kenyataanya.
“Kali ini kita bahas perasaan ya, bukan pelajaran” nada Debi setengah jengkel
“Iya juga sih, tau nih kenapa gue bego banget”
“Emang”

==*==

==*==

Suruh Riski.
“Sabar kenapa ? baru juga nyampai”.
“Laper gue” jawab Riski singkat.

Tanya Debi
“Lo tu yang kenapa ??” jawab Sarah sedikit emosi
“Maksud lo apa ??”
“Pikir sendiri” lalu sarah berjalan mininggalkan Debi
Tanya Debi pelan.
“Gue nggak laper” ucap Debi tiba-tiba. Mendengar itu Riski langsung menghentikan makannya dan barulah dia tahu kalau Debi sedang sedih.
“Makanannya kan kasian, lo nggak suka ma pesenan gue ??” ucap Riski dambil sedikit merayu Debi agar dia mau memakan makanannya.
“ehhm..nggak kok, gue suka”
“Enak aja, makanan gue tinggal dikit” tolak Riski mentah-mentah.
“Gue nggak mungkin saingan sama sahabat gue sendiri, lo ngerti nggak sih gimana rasanya ??”
“Maksud lo apa sih ?? gue nggak ngerti, lo bilang lo benci sama gue.
“Lalu kenapa Sarah marah sama gue ??”

==*==

“Riski !!” Ternyata Sarah datang lebih dulu.
“Kebetulan lo dateng Sar, gue mau sholat dulu.
“Iya tante, saya minta maaf.
“Cukup !!” potong ibu Debi sebelum Riski selesai melanjutkan kata-katanya.
“Gimana anak saya dok ??”

==*==

Setelah dua hari setelah kematian Debi.

Selain kenangan-kenangan indah bersamamu
Mata indah yang dahulu adalah milikku
Kini semuanya terasa jauh meninggalkanku
Kehidupan terasa kosong tanpa keindahanmu
Hati, cinta dan rinduku adalah milikmu
Cintamu tak kan pernah membebaskanku
Bagaimana mungkin aku terbang mencari cinta yang lain
Saat sayap-sayapku telah patah kerenamu
Cintamu akan tetap timggal bersamaku

THE POETRY OF LOVE

IN TIME

it’s not too late to let it go
it’s not too late to break
it’s not too late to say i’m sorry
it’s true

it might not be the easiest
it might be hard to try
the madness gonna wreck it down
deeply cut the heart

as you ready be strong
take your soul and flying high to the sky
and you fade away, disappear in time

The kingdom of Majapahit

INTRODUCTION

The kingdom of Majapahit, with its capital in East Java, flourished at the end of what is known as Indonesia's 'classical age'. This was a period in which the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism were predominant cultural influences. Beginning with the first appearance of Hinduized kingdoms in the archipelago in the 5th century A.D., this classical age was to last for more than a millennium, until the final collapse of Majapahit in the early 16th century and the establishing of Java's first Islamic sultanate at Demak.

Legend has it that Hindu civilization and culture were introduced to Java in A.D. 78 by the sage Aji Saka. This figure is often associated with Agastya, the patron saint of southern India, whose image is a common sight on the southern walls of Central Javanese Hindu temples. Not unlike the god Neptune in appearance, Agastya is also recognized as Shiwa in his form of divine teacher. When he first brought the message of Hinduism to southern India, it is said that he stood in the north and faced south.

The way in which Hindu/Buddhist culture was transmitted to Indonesia is still not yet fully understood. Older theories suggesting immigration and colonization by Indian merchants and settlers have tended to lose favour in the light of recent advances made in the fields of history and archaeology. The case seems rather to have been one in which the native Indonesians themselves played an active role in the selection and adaptation of foreign cultural forms, through which they were inspired.

The great flowering of Hindu-Javanese civilization which sprang up in Central Java during the 8th and 9th centuries may be seen as the product of a dialogue between, on the one hand, the established forms of classical Hinduism and Buddhism, and on the other, the innovative qualities of a society whose traditional beliefs and customs were already firmly entrenched.

The oldest datable evidence of a Hindu civilization in Indonesia comes from Kutei in eastern Kalimantan (Borneo). Stone inscriptions, written in sanskrit and dating from around A.D. 400, record the reign of a King Mulawarman. At about the same time, in West Java, there existed a kingdom named Tarumanagara, yet more than this little is known, on account of the scarcity of archaeological remains.

It is not until the 7th and 8th centuries that the picture becomes clearer. This period, which saw the rise of the maritime empire of Sriwijaya in south eastern Sumatra, as well as the emergence of the Central Javanese kingdom of Mataram, marked the beginning of a golden age in Indonesian history.
In the whole course of my life I have never met with such stupendous and finished specimens of human labour, and of the science and taste of ages long since forgot, crowded together in so small a compass as in this little spot'

Thus exclaimed Captain George Baker when first confronted by the ruins of Candi Sewu, or the 'Temple of a Thousand Buddhas', at Prambanan, near Yogyakarta, early in the 19th century. Baker, who had been given the task of surveying the antiquities of Java by Thomas Stamford Raffles, then governor of the island, was no stranger to India, nor to other parts of south east Asia.

Yet, the extensive ruins to be found in the mountains and on the plains of Central Java were beyond anything which he had yet seen. The remains of Borobudur, Prambanan, Sewu, the temple sites of Dieng and Gedong Songo, are just a few of the archaeological treasures which to this day continue to arouse similar expressions of wonder and astonishment.

Through the study of temple remains and the deciphering of ancient inscriptions on stone and metal, historians have been able to establish a quite coherent chronology for the period. Tracing an outline, the ruling power in 8th and 9th century Central Java appears to have been shared by two dynasties, whose exact relationship is not fully clear. According to the earliest known inscription, dating from A.D.732, there was a Hindu king named Sanjaya, who united the kingdom of Java and whose descendants are recorded in inscriptions for the following two centuries.

Not long after the appearance of Sanjaya, a dynasty bearing the title Sailendra emerged as the supreme authority on the southern plains. The Sailendra were adherents of Mahayana Buddhism, the religion which inspired them to embark on one of the most ambitious building programmes known to history. In the space of just one century they commissioned the construction of a vast number of religious monuments, some very large, built from hand cut blocks of volcanic stone. The remains of many of these buildings are still visible, some of the, more well known including the temples of Kalasan, Sari, Sewu, Sojiwan, Mendut, Ngawen, Pawon, as well as the massive 'temple mountain' of Borobudur, one of the architectural wonders of the world.

Sometime during the early to mid 9th century, a marriage alliance between a Sailendra princess and a king from the dynasty of Sanjaya seems to have resulted in the end of Sailendra rule in Java. At about the same time, the great Shiwa temple at Prambanan was constructed, perhaps as a monument to the return to power of the Sanjaya dynasty.

Yet, the Prambanan temple complex was barely completed when, for reasons which are still not fully comprehended, Central Java all but vanished from the records of history for about five centuries. One reason for this sudden silence, which began after the palace was moved to East Java by Mpu Sindok in A.D. 929, may well have been a violent eruption of Mt Merapi, which overlooks the plains of both Borobudur and Prambanan. In recent years, more and more archaeological sites have been discovered buried under metres of lava and volcanic dust, indicating the occurrence of a serious calamity which could well have taken place about a thousand years ago.

Temple of Majapahit

Temple of Majapahit

The archaeological sites of Majapahit consist, for the most part, of the remains of religious foundations, or candi, built usually from stone or brick. From the two most important and informative literary sources dealing with the history of Majapahit, the Nagarakertagama and Pararaton, we learn that a large number of sacred buildings were constructed as memorial shrines to deceased rulers and their families. The death of a king or queen saw the beginning of a series of funeral rites designed to guide the departed soul back to the source from which it had originated. These rites culminated in the shraddha ceremony, held 12 years after death, upon completion of which it was believed that final liberation was ensured. In memory of the deceased,a stone image of a god or goddess, with whom the ruler had been identified in life, was fashioned as an 'ideal portrait' and placed within a shrine. The Nagarakertagama gives a very complete description of the sbraddha ceremony conducted on behalf of the Rajapatni, grandmother of King Hayam Wuruk, in the year 1362.

It appears that more important rulers often had monuments built in several places, and were further identified with more than one divine image. Thus, King Wishnuwardhana of singosari Shiwa at Waleri (Blitar) and as Amoghapasha (a Buddhist form) at Candi Jajaghu, east of Malang. Likewise, his son and successor, Kertanagara, had memorial shrines built at Pandaan (Candi Jawi) and at Singosari. The Pararaton is especially informative concerning the names and locations of the shrines dedicated to the royal families of Singosari and Majapahit ( see page 158).

The word candi, which is commonly used to identify ancient remains dating from Indonesia's classical period, needs some explanation. The term is generally accepted today as stemming from the sanskrit candika, a name of the Hindu goddess Durga, who inhabits the graveyard. Technically speaking, therefore candi is used to denote an ancient tomb or shrine. In reality, however, we find the word employed in a much wider context, and nowadays it is applied to all manner of archaeological sites, including gateways and bathing places. In a contemporary context, then, a candi may be seen as a place containing a residing spirit, revered for both its age as well as its qualities of mystery. In this sense, it is not different to a pusaka, or sacred heirloom.

The Nagarakertagama differentiates four types of sacred building, but it is difficult to know with certainty which ones among them are properly candi and which are not. It has been suggested that buildings referred to as dharma baji, of which 27 are listed, may be considered as royal shrines. These include Kagenengan, Tumapel, Kidal, Jajaghu, Weda-wedwan, Tudan, Pikatan, Bukul,Jawa-jawa, Antang, Antasari, Kalangbret,Jaga, Balitar, Cilabrit, Waleri, Babeg, Kukap, Lumbang, Pagor, Antahpura, Segala, Simping, Ranggapura, Buddhi Kuncir, Prajnaparamitapuri and Bhayalango.

Of the above-mentioned, the only ones which we can identify with certainty today are Tumapel (Singosari), Kidal, Jajaghu (Jago), Jawa-jawa (Jawi), Simping (Sumberjati) and Bhayalango. Kagenengan and Antahpura are known from literature as being connected with Ken Angrok and Kertarajasa respectively, but the exact locations of these places are not yet known.

mojokerto

About one hour by car from Surabaya lays the city of Mojokerto and just east of this the Trowulan village. Trowulan was in the 14th century the capital of the great Majapahit empire, once the mightiest kingdom on Java and the first to control the entire Indonesian archipelago (see Java facts). Majapahit's rule lasted from 1294 to the beginning of the 16th century. The Majapahit palace was supposedly a large structure surrounded by high walls with guard towers. Inside the walls there was a small town. The location was not a coincidence, this was a very rich agricultural area with a large population and large resources.

Unfortunately there is not much left of the monuments and buildings from this era today, most of them were built of wood and red bricks that has eroded. Nevertheless there are some smaller ruins in the area, one of the most famous is Candi Tikus (the rat temple). It got it's name simply because there was so many rat nests that appeared during the excavation. Most likely it was a bathing place for the queen. Other ruins are mostly foundations and gates built by stone, like Bajang Ratu.

There are museums both in Trowulan and Mojokerto telling the history of this once powerful empire. The Trowulan museum contains many interesting artifacts and descriptions of ruins and other remains of Majapahit on East Java. The museum is open daily except for Monday and is a good starting point in order to learn something about the history of Majapahit and this area.

Dhalang (puppeteer) traditional work

Dhalang (puppeteer)

The dalang (Javanese: dhalang) is the puppeteer in an Indonesian wayang performance.

In a performance of wayang kulit, the dalang sits behind a screen (kelir) made of white cotton stretched on a wooden frame. Above his head, hanging from beams attached to the top of the screen, is the lamp (blencong), which projects the shadows onto the screen. In front of the dalang is a stage (debog), traditionally made from the trunk of a banana tree, into which the sharpened control rods of the puppets can be pushed to keep them in position during the performance. To his left is the puppet chest (kotak), and to his right is the puppet chest's lid, on which the puppets sit ready for use.

In addition to moving the puppets and speaking their lines, the dalang is also responsible for giving cues to the gamelan. This is done principally by playing the kepyak, a metal plate or set of plates played with his foot, or by rapping on the puppet chest (kotak) with a wooden mallet held in the left hand.

The art of puppetry (pedhalangan) was traditionally handed down within families, and dalangs formed a type of informal caste within Javanese society. The women of these families traditionally were expert players of the gendér, an instrument which has a particularly important role in accompanying wayang performances. The sons of dalangs were often apprenticed out around the age of 13 to another dalang. His role included helping to set up the screen ahead of a performance, performing the afternoon show before a main all-night wayang, and sometimes acting as an accompanying musician or as an assistant puppeteer. He would also frequently end up marrying his master's daughter, who would have been trained as a gendér player by her mother. The social aspects of the dalang caste are covered by Victoria Clara van Groenendael's book "The dalang behind the wayang" (Dordrecht, 1985)

Much of the traditional training of dalangs was in the form of a practical apprenticeship, with a certain amount of spiritual training thrown in. This included meditation and a form of ascetic exercise known as kungkum, in which meditation is carried out naked at night while immersed up to the neck in water. Such practices are felt to be essential in building up the stamina to perform for nine hours at a stretch. A further ascetic element is that dalangs never eat during the performance, although almost all drink sweet tea and many also smoke heavily.

In recent times, however, schools teaching pedhalangan have been founded, such as the Habirandha school within the Kraton Yogyakarta, which teach a standardized version of pedhalangan. The Habirandha school published its own textbook, the Pedhalangan Ngayogyakarta, in 1976. Standardized pedhalangan is also taught at Indonesian state institutions such as the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta.

Pedhalangan falls into three main areas - musical, vocal and puppetry. The musical aspects include the direction and cueing of the gamelan and the singing of mood-setting songs (sulukan), the vocal includes the recitation of set texts at scene-openings (kandha) and the extemporisation of dialogue showing mastery of Javanese linguistic etiquette, while the puppetry itself (sabetan) involves a complex system of movements and positions. There is an extensive study of sabetan in English by Roger Long (see further Reading)

Gamelan the musical traditional instrument

Gamelan the musical traditional instrument

1. The Gamelan is the musical instruments. In the Javanese Wayang, these instruments nowadays consist of at least 15 different types, mostly made of bronze and generally of the percussion type, mostly made of bronze and generally of the percussion type; a small bamboo flute (suling), one or two horizontal drums on wooden stands (kendang), a two stringed violin-like instrument (rebab) and a wooden xylophone (gambang) are the non percussion and/or non-bronze musical instruments used to accompany a wayang purwa performance.

2. The kothak or wooden chest. The kothak normally functions as a storage box for the wayang puppets and other equipment such as the kelir, chempala and kepyak. To store a professional set consisting of around 200 puppets, its measurement should be approximately 150 cm. long, 80 cm. wide and 60 cm. high (with lid on).

3. The chempala or wooden knockers are usually made of teak wood. There are two kinds, one about half size of the other. The larger of these is approximately 20 cm. long with a diameter of about 5 cm. This is usually held in the dalang's left hand, is used to knock the kothak to produce the sound effects and coded orders he requires. When his two hands are busy manipulating the puppets, he uses the small chempala for the same purpose by holding it between the toes of his right foot, for he sits cross-legged, his right foot crossing his left thigh. As mentioned above, the knocking sounds not only produce sound effects, but also serve as the coded orders/signals of the dalang, orders to the musicians on what melodies to play, to slow down or quicken the rythm, to play it loudly or softly, or stop the music.

4. The kepyak or metal rappers. This is usually made of three pieces of bronze plate measuring approximately 15 cm. long and 10 cm. wide suspended on small cords or chains to the outer side of the kothak. The dalang hits it with the toes of his right foot or with the small knocker held between the toes of his right foot. The function of this tool is mainly to produce sound effects; occassionally it functions as a chempala in giving the coded signals.

Even then with the arrival of European fashion model (long skirt), dress typical of the original Mojokerto increasingly marginalized. Thus more difficult to rnencari truth of the original fashion typical of Mojokerto.

Traditional Wedding makeup Mojokerto inevitable problem of the influence of modernization in all fields is the makeup, especially in manufacturing technology makeup. These tools make-up era is now very modern and varied, both in shape, color and packaging. To take advantage of tools to make up a person just chose the groove, because the variations they are also very varied. From the most expensive with prices with the simple to the most expensive price to the relatively low cost. Use of tools increasingly displaced the traditional makeup, because in addition to how its use is more difficult, required materials are sometimes not easy to obtain. Also makeup processed with this simple easy way faded, and was considered impractical.

Based on field observations, in the first makeup that is used for bridal makeup in the past is still very simple example:

Atal: used as a powder, made from rice and saffron mashed with water and then crushed. Then used as a scrub who smeared all over the body especially the bride.

Boyfriend: A kind of plant whose leaves into small pieces when crushed and mixed with limestone, gambier and black ants are used to dye the hands and feet nails sometimes applied also on the edge of the foot.

According to the prevailing custom in the past, usually a few days before the meeting, the prospective bride diprebolehkan not leave the house or secluded (Java). The goal is that health and safety of prospective brides awake. In periods of secluded, brides usually look after themselves, by putting Atal scrubs made from the whole body so that on the day of "H" will be visible yellow body and shine. The longer and regularly use scrubs result will also be increasingly baik.Selain scrubs, the prospective bride is also required putting a boyfriend leaves long before the day of "H", so that later when he sat on the aisle with her nails will appear bright red color is natural. This custom is still a lot done even by today's bride.

Also in general and female grooms are also required through the ceremony of "bloat teeth" or pangur (Java). The goal is that the teeth look flat, neat and clean especially when smiling. But this now seems to pangur habit is no longer interested, because in addition to already not be in style, also proved that pangur cause tooth decay.

In addition to prenatal care, marriage, the bride also had various performances, such as cutting hair around the forehead / brow / sinom, so that the forehead really smooth and neat when fitted diadem. Likewise, soft hairs around the ears (godeg = Java) must be removed, so that later will produce a perfect shape after Sumping fitted. In general, cutting hair on the forehead and around the ears will remain visible until one month later.

While meeting the bride, of course the bride makeup though with the equipment and make up a very simple. Since it is a special day for both the bride. Makeup used by the bride include:

Dipertebal eyebrows and reshaped, it is usually the preferred model at the time was like a crescent shape. Thicken eyebrows, using charcoal (wood that burned a tip)

Polished lip with Sumba (food coloring) in red by using a stick that has been flattened (considered as kwasnya).

Part skillet is up to all the body, especially parts - parts that look like hands and feet, covered with Atal to appear more clean and bright (Java-manglingi)

The entire nail hands and feet are given herb leaves boyfriend, so reddish.

While for the groom was also given a little make up, especially on the: - eyebrows, usually refined shapes with charcoal - Mustache, usually also diempurnakan to make a picture of charcoal - Lips, too, plus a thin layer with food coloring. During the later use of good makeup for the bride and groom who are already using modern makeup, because in addition to more practical also easier to use. There remain only a few specific ingredients that can not be replaced, for example Atal until now still in great demand just added some specific ingredient that causes the smell fragrant and fresh. If the bridal couple sat in a chair now exclusively reserved for the bride (kwade), at the time the bride just sits on a simple chair.
